A few years ago I got a dog. It was the first dog I ever owned. It took my family about two years to convince me to get a dog. I was pretty hesitant about getting one since I was sure it would be a lot of work. I was assured by my husband and kids that I wouldn’t have to do ANYTHING related to the dog. I thought that doesn’t sound too bad so I reluctantly agreed.
We researched dogs and decided on a Labradoodle. The mom dog was a 49 pound Labrador and the dad was a 12 poodle. I use to think that when a dog was a mixed breed, they were kind of a mutt. Well, apparently now they called them “designer” dogs. We wanted a family dog who loves people which is the Labrador part and a smart dog and one who didn’t shed which is the poodle part. The jury is still out on the smart part, but boy does this dog love his family and doesn’t shed at all. Well, of course when we brought the dog home, I instantly fell in love with it and needless to say, I do pretty much everything for the dog. That’s fine though. When my family said I would not have to do anything, I knew I would end up doing almost everything.
I did have some very specific rules when we first got the dog. He wasn’t allowed upstairs. Then, okay, he can go upstairs but not in the bedrooms. Fine, he can go in the bedrooms but not on the bed. He now sleeps in my bed with me, sometimes taking over on my pillow. Now that I have grown to love this dog, which took all of about one day, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you are looking for a dog, here is a list of the five most popular breeds in the U.S. for 2018:
- Labrador Retriever
- German Shepherd
- Golden Retriever
- Bulldog
- Beagle
If you are allergic, or do not like dog hair, any dog mixed with a poodle is a pretty safe bet. They tend to be hypoallergenic. There are probably close to 100 dogs that are mixed with the poodle. (link). The Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, Maltipoo (Maltese + poodle), Cockapoo (Cockerspaniel + Poodle) and the Schnoodle (Schnauzer + Poodle) are all very popular poodle mixes.
One way I like to share my dog with my friends and family is through a Penless video sticker. The sticker has a QR code on it where I can upload videos or super cute photos of my dog. You can put the stickers on practically anything. It is a great way to share memories!
