They say Rome is the eternal city. This historic place is home to the world famous Colosseum and ancient art. Millions of people each year step foot through the legendary landmarks, churches, and museums of this densely populated city. After my cousin went to Rome, I virtually got to see this city through the Penless stickers and postcards she sent us back home. This inspired me to plan a trip to the eternal city with my childhood best friend. We just got back last week and let me be the first to tell you, no picture or video captures the true beauty of the city. It was quite the experience and one I’d definitely take again. The food is always fresh, the views were stunning, and the streets were always filled with locals and tourists coming in and out of every corner side cafe. The city seems to run on morning cups of coffee and a hearty pasta dish at night. 

The first full day we were in Rome, we decided to tour the Colosseum, along with hundreds of other people that day. The Colosseum is bigger in person than I imagined. On our tour, we learned much history as this is one of the seven wonders of the world. It was hard to believe that we were standing in the same place the gladiators fought in the early years. The Colosseum opened in year 80. It is the largest amphitheater in the world. People fought in the Colosseum for centuries until it became inactive. 

Other than the Colosseum, we have been into many cathedrals and tourist attractions. A few of the other sights we saw were St. Peter’s Basilica, The Trevi Fountain, and The Roman Forum. St. Peter’s Basilica is said to be one of the holiest Catholic shrines. The Trevi Fountain is a spectacular landmark. Since I am somewhat superstitious, I did throw a coin with my right hand over my left shoulder to ensure I will someday return to Rome.  Lastly, the Roman Forum was an impressive sight to look down on from up above. It is a cluster of ruins and ancient government buildings. I took a video of it to upload on a Penless sticker as well.  This will definitely go into my scrapbook! There is so much to see and not enough time for it all it one trip, making Rome a spot to come back to one day!
