Recently my photography has taken off and turned into more of a career than a hobby. Because of Penless, I was able to share my photos and videos to all my friends, family, and beyond. Fast Forward a few months, my pictures were in the hands of big name companies in hopes that I would take pictures for them. I had to accept the offer and they transferred me to an office in New York for a while because what better place to take pictures than The Big Apple? New York is full of culture! Between the 5 boroughs, densely populated area, all the food, and scenery, there is no better place for an aspiring photographer to be.
I packed my bags and within a few weeks of agreeing to the contract, I was in my own apartment in the heart of New York, New York. I had my best friend Matt help move me in, we toured the city together so I can get familiar with my new stomping grounds. The first thing we did as soon as we arrived was get a slice a slice of the famous New York pizza. We ate and Joe’s Pizza, and let me tell you, it really is all that it is hyped up to be. As soon as we knew it, Matt had to leave me in the city and I had to start my new life as a professional photographer.
My first assignment was to take pictures of the people so I can capture the culture as well as the diversity of New York. This was somewhat of an easy first task since New York is the most densely populated city in the United States. I got pictures of people dancing, singing, playing the guitar, and so much more! My boss loved the photos I took so I was assigned to take pictures of the scenery.
I went down to Central Park so I can capture the flowers, greenery, and also so I could send my family a Penless postcard. I took my favorite pictures of central park and attached them to the Penless postcard. There is so many neat restaurants in Central Park that I tried while working on this project. Some of my favorites were: The Loeb Boathouse http://www.thecentralparkboathouse.com , Tavern on the Green https://www.tavernonthegreen.com/menu/ , Park room http://parklanenewyork.com/nyc-restaurants-bars , and Harry’s New York Bar harrys-new-york-bar. There is no such thing as bad food while in New York.
On the side, I took pictures of all the latest food trends. Every block seems to have some sort of coffee shop, shake shack, burger joint, or pizza parlor. My favorite was the coffee shops because every place seemed to have a unique way of making your cup of joe a little different from all the other places.
I am so thankful to have expanded my horizons and stepped out of my comfort zone. I am looking forward to all the pictures I will take, adventures to come, and all the pizza to eat! I really do think New York is a good fit for me, and it all started because of Penless. Now I am going to stock up on Penless merchandise to send to my family so they can virtually be here with me and hopefully visit me soon!
