Catalina Island is one of our favorite weekend destinations for adventure and entertainment. It is about an hour boat ride from SoCal and once you get there, it is so small that you do not need a car to get around. Even though it is a small downtown, there is a lot to do on the island. Catalina offers something for everyone. There are activities for the adventurous or if your goal is to just chill, there is a beautiful beach to plant your chair and sip on your umbrella drink.
My girlfriend and I are more adventurous, so we decided to check out some of the excursions. One of the top-rated adventures is the Zip Line Eco Tour. On this tour, we zip lined from 600 feet high zigzagging through canyons going almost 35mph. Super fun and a must do for all those adrenaline junkies out there. If that is not adventurous enough for you, then you can try the Catalina Aerial Adventure. We have done this in the past and had a blast. It is a bit more of a challenge since you will climb, swing and crawl through obstacles suspended in the woods. There are balance beams, log bridges and rope ladders just to name a few.
The last day we were on the island we went on the Bison Expedition. We boarded an open-air Hummer and went to the Catalina’s rugged interior in search for bison. There are roughly 150 of these majestic animals on this island. Seeing the bison graze on the hillside was just amazing. From the hillside, we were also able to see sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Definitely an afternoon to remember.
There are many other excursions to take on the island, but we have to save something for next time. We did get plenty of pictures and videos. I just use the Penless downloadables and put the videos into our photobook. Penless makes it easy to cherish and share the memories!
