Owning a pet is something I’ve always wanted to do but never had the time or space for one. Since I am finally moving into my own place, and it’s finally summer, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to buy a dog. For years I have been doing research on what breed I want and places where I can adopt one. I have always wanted a small dog that I could adopt from a rescue or a shelter. After looking at many breeds, I was torn between a few different ones: Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer and a Bichon Frise.
The Maltese dogs come from the Mediteranian island of Malta. Since they are generally less than seven pounds, it would be the perfect fit for my small house. I have heard they are good dogs and love to interact with people of all ages, which is good for when my younger cousins come to visit. They also do not shed much which is a plus! If I got a Maltese, I would want it in white and would buy a cute bow to to put in her long hair. They do not require too much grooming although it is recommended to gently brush its hair and teeth about everyday to prevent tangles or dental issues in the future.
Miniature Schnauzers come from Germany! They are hypoallergenic and typically weigh under 18 pounds. Being apart of the 10 most common dog breeds worldwide, they are known for being obedient and very friendly! If I were to get a Miniature Schnauzer, I would get a salt and pepper color. Because it has a lot of thick, long hair, it would require frequent brushing. Luckily it does not shed frequently. I would definitely have to take it on walks everyday due to the high amounts of energy these dogs tend to have.
Lastly, the Bichon Frise is a member of the toy dog group along with the Maltese. Luckily, they are hypoallergenic and children friendly. Weighing less than 11 pounds, it will be easy for me to live with and take to many places I go! Grooming is pretty simple, I would just have to brush it often and clip its nails but it doesn’t shed much. They always seem happy and outgoing which is a good quality to have.
I am excited to continue my research and find the perfect dog for me! Picking hypoallergenic, low shedding dogs are ideal. Also having a small, lower maintenance, friendly dog is a priority for me because I will not have the biggest house and I will have to take care of it on my own. I love to go on walks and exercise, so having a dog would help motivate me to go outdoors everyday. My friends and family will surely get plenty of video of my new puppy on a Penless paw sticker. Attaching a Penless sticker to anything is so easy and so fun! Cannot wait to own a dog of my own soon!
